Hello world!

I am a computational biologist currently working as a postdoctoral researcher @ UMCG, Groningen. I apply omics-based methodologies to uncover molecular determinants of health and disease. My current primary project is embedded within the VITAL consortium.

I completed my PhD in evolutionary biology and population genetics from the MPIPZ, Cologne. During my PhD, I explored the impact of natural selection on gene regulatory elements from a population and comparative genomics perspective.

To take a break from my adventures with data, I enjoy writing short stories and running (though not at the same time).

(February 2026) Our work on the longitudinal analysis of cross-reactive antibodies against the H1N1 2009 swine flu pandemic is out on medrxiv(under review in PLoS Pathogens). This work performed in-depth functional analysis of the LifeLines cohort dataset

(January 2026) Our team was recently awarded the ZonMw grant for the Infectious Disease Control call. We will investigate immune factors associated with reduced protection in the aging population against RSV, SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza. Click here to know more

(November 2025My paper on natural selection in TF-DNA interaction motifs was recently published in GBE
